Welcome to Brancaster Midsummer Music 2010

Welcome to Brancaster Midsummer Music 2010. This year we celebrate our 10th successive year of music making at Brancaster. Our theme is 20th Century French music - Ravel’s glorious string quartet, Françaix’s delightfully witty octet and Debussy’s enchanting Suite Bergamasque.

Two of our concerts are in the fine, old, flint coastal churches in Brancaster and Thornham and our signature concert, by kind permission of the Marquess of Cholmondeley, will be held at Houghton Hall. Picnics are permitted on the lawn and the famous Walled Garden will be open.

In addition to the concerts, we attach enormous importance to the inter-active concert we provide every year for the pupils of Smithdon High School, Hunstanton as well as for pupils from schools throughout the area. In an informal manner, the pupils are introduced to classical music, are invited to participate and then listen to a short concert. In the afternoon, those pupils taking music as part of their GCSE or A Level work have an intensive workshop with the musicians.

This year, O Duo will be thrust into the lions' den. They have recently been appointed Artistic Directors of Children's Classical Concerts in Scotland and, shortly after the Smithdon concert, will be at the Barbican giving the televised world premiere of a new concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. They play marimbas, vibraphone and a huge array of percussion. They communicate with panache, immediacy and brilliance, guaranteeing a splendid day for the boys and girls at Smithdon. This concert is not open to the general public.

Booking could hardly be easier. Just download the booking form, complete it and send to the Booking Office with a cheque and a stamped, addressed envelope. Alternatively, contact us via e-mail, info@brancaster-music.co.uk. We look forward to seeing you.
